An AI tool that does one expensive task for one industry
Instead of a general AI product, you build one that does a single costly, repeated task for a single trade — reading a survey, checking a spec, drafting a report. The customer is a business already paying salaried hours for that task. It sells as a subscription because the task happens again next week.

Why narrow beats general
A general assistant competes with every model provider. A tool that reads structural drawings for a specific code, or checks insurance submissions against one insurer's rules, competes with a spreadsheet and an overworked specialist — and wins on both accuracy and cost.
Skills required
- Real depth in the industry, or a co-founder who has it. Without it you cannot tell a correct output from a plausible one.
- Enough engineering to ship and maintain a product people rely on at work.
- Patience for a long first sale — you're asking a firm to trust software with something that matters.
How to validate before building
Sell the outcome as a service first. Do ten of them by hand, badly and slowly, at a real price. You'll discover the edge cases that decide whether the product is possible — and you'll have a paying customer waiting when it exists.
This is the highest-risk idea on this page. It's here because the payoff is real, not because it's a good first business.
Risks
- Regulated industries have accuracy and liability expectations software has to meet, not dodge.
- Model costs move. Price so a change in provider pricing doesn't erase your margin.
- Long sales cycles will outlast your savings if you build before you sell.
Would this work for you?
This page can't tell you that — it doesn't know your skills, time or budget. The direction assessment does, and it starts from this idea rather than a blank page.
